A bit of this, a bit of that

Lately we've been taking advantage of the brilliant and crispy blue-skied winter’s days to take the Claphnes for a walk - here we are along Napier’s Marine Parade. Daphne is between my legs but only Chloe’s shadow can be seen πŸ™ƒ

~~

And I ordered some treats which both arrived on the same day 😍😍 - my two favourite Chanel picture books. I like to check these kind of books out of the library first and then buy them if they will do my limited shelving space justice πŸ€—

The titles are:

‘Intimate Chanel’ by Isabelle Fiemeyer (here on Amazon)

And

‘Coco Chanel: Three Weeks/1962’ by Douglas Kirkland (here on Amazon)

Please tell me your favourite glossy glamorous coffee table book - I'm always after new suggestions to check out.

Globally, I know things are still very scary for a lot of people.  We are good, for now, here in New Zealand.  I want you to know that I am thinking of each of you, and wish you health, peace and happiness.

Focusing on the good in our world, and life, is one way that I calm my mind.

I read books that make me happy, such as The Power by Rhonda Byrne, and always have a good novel on the go (currently, Rosie Meadows Regrets, by Catherine Alliott which I am 4/5 finished and have enjoyed a lot so far.)

I try to relax myself with positive thoughts, counting my blessings, sending love-clouds out to people who need them and remember all the good things we have around us.

I eat mostly healthy foods with lots of vegetables, and eat (or drink) fun things as well.  Life is too short to deny ourselves the little pleasures.

Make things whether it's in the kitchen, with my sewing machine, knitting needles etc.  I have a short attention span and small pockets of time, so my creations are easy and small too :)  That way I have a chance at completing them.

And finally I try to rest - with early(ish) nights, or a sleep-in on the weekend, going for a relaxing dog romp (they romp, I don't), sitting down after lunch with a cup of tea, and conning my husband into a footrub after dinner.

Rest is the thing I resist the most, even though it's free to do, and doesn't take any extra time, just intention.  After all, if I can sit there watching a television program, I can read a book or go to sleep earlier.  I think it's just inertia sometimes :)  It's more effort to get up and go to bed than just lie there on the sofa!

How do you like to soothe your mind?  Please share.

xx Fiona

  1. Lately I've been tuning out of the news and staying out of other people's business and anxieties and just trying to stay in my own lane. It helps me to refocus on things I'm interested in instead of everything else out there.

    I love Intimate Chanel!

  2. Hi Fiona, I really miss checking out library books since they've closed (I'm in Calif). Reading a good novel is therapeutic to me. I am getting closer to buying an e-reader. Other things that soothe my mind are sitting in the backyard garden and taking in nature, it helps a lot. Also, just like you said, eating well and getting enough sleep help tremendously as well as limiting news.

The name "Claphnes" for your pups is adorable!

    1. I think you would enjoy an ereader as a supplement to paper books, D. I love having both, and the cool thing is that you can borrow ebooks from the library too! Lockdown can't stop this :)

    2. Thanks for your response! Yes, I've been checking out ebooks from the library but since I don't have an ereader I have to read the ebooks on my cell phone...very hard for me to do. An ereader is definitely on my radar now.

    3. Do you have an iPad or tablet? I read ebooks on these too and it's a nice change, plus bigger than a phone, but the ereader is definitely good for reading in bed (not too bright, and not a blue light) plus putting in my bag to take to the hairdresser's etc.

  3. I don't have a tablet or ipad, just a desktop. The ereader sounds ideal and just the right size, I think I'll probably get one :)

  4. I must check out Intimate Chanel; not sure how I missed that one. One of my favorites is 'The ELLEments of Personal Style: 25 Modern Fashion Icons on how to Dress, Shop and Live'; it's from 2010 but I still browse through it often. Tons of photos and profiles of a wide variety of stylish women - Padma Lakshmi, Anjelica Huston, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling, Christina Hendricks, DVF, Dita von Teese. I think you'd really enjoy it if you haven't already, of course
