30 Chic Days at Home - Day 26 - Take A Nap


Today's post is the complete opposite to yesterday's; how fun is that?

One thing I've found over the past few weeks, is that I've been really tired.  Not just when I am doing a bit more exercise either (but definitely that's a small part of it.)  I start nodding off about 9pm and can't wait to get into bed, and this afternoon after a cup of tea I closed my eyes for fifteen minutes sitting on the sofa.  I've turned into a ninety year old!  No offense to ninety year olds :)

I've seen a great meme which says something like, 'We're in a pandemic, not a productivity contest', which I think is so good.  On the one hand it's totally true, and on the other, if you're lucky enough to be at home waiting it out, there's a feeling of guilt so you want to be that productive person as well.

But the tiredness is there.  Maybe it's all the thinking about things.  It drains your battery.  And we are coming into Autumn in New Zealand.  The long shadows when it's still quite early and that sleepy weather's-getting-cooler cicada sound make me feel like rugging in for the upcoming winter.  Hibernation time!

I always resist naps but they are meant to be an excellent thing to do.  I don't know if I will become a napper properly, but I will certainly have one when needed, and relish my early nights.

I'm curious to know if you have found yourself more tired at the moment and if you think our global situation is part of the cause?

  1. Yes...don't know why, but I am with you. It is Spring here in Pennsylvania but even with the brighter days I find myself nodding off. Yesterday I fell asleep and it was almost two hours!!! I thought I would not sleep at night, but no worries. Stay well, be healthy, do what you can, and nap when you feel like it. All rules are out !

  2. I've been napping too, but usually in doses of 15-20 minutes. I think it is a stress reliever for me and I let myself nap when needed. I probably do it 2-3 times a week.

    When our lives go back to their usual routines--or what we choose to become routine--the chance for a nap may not be there. I choose to embrace the opportunity!

    1. Yes, it will be so interesting to see how all our lives change afterwards (from our choosing). What a massive shift for the entire planet.

  3. This is so interesting Fiona, yes, the tiredness. I too am wondering - what the? about it. Glad it's not just me. But also, mother nature gives us autumn to start slowing down, sleep more, rest and restore.

    1. Funnily enough, Ratnamurti, one of the main stories on the NZ Herald website this morning was about how everyone is feeling tired!! It's a proper thing!

  4. You are not alone in feeling tired, Fiona. I'm heading more towards 90, well, 76 in September, but lately I feel tired by the end of the morning! But I do think while we're in lockdown we are also slowing down and that has something to do with it. We're taken our foot of the pedal and are relaxing a bit more at home, rather than whizzing through the housekeeping to get on with other things, even if we're retired. I'm sure when things return to something like normal you will regain your energy levels again.
