30 Chic Days at Home - Day 18 - Learn Something

I don't know about you, but the lockdown has inspired me to increase my rate of learning.  All the things I've invested in over the years are getting a good workout (or are planned for a workout). There's just something about being at home that begs you to exercise your brain and expand your knowledge into new horizons.

Resources I am talking about include:

  • Doing the online courses I've bought over the years (some I've completed, some partially, some not at all.)
  • Reading the eBooks on my Kindle/iPad.
  • Reading the physical books on my shelves.
  • Considering trying sewing patterns that I have always put off as being 'too difficult'.
Other examples I can think of are:
  • Trying a recipe that is out of your comfort zone (it seems that everyone is baking various types of bread at the moment.)
  • Investigating a new form of exercise online such as yoga (I have a Skype class at noon today!)
  • Video chats with family and friends (it's all new to me; I had a conversation with four of us a few days ago.)
  • Choosing a subject that's always interested you and researching it online (potential rabbit hole here though!)
However much time you have, it's fun to have a new project to look forward to, and who knows, by the time we're all free to come and go, we might be wearing that skirt we made, feeling proud to have completed all the modules on a course or completed the first draft of our book.

[Later on this year} "You look nice today".  "Oh thanks, this is my new Lockdown Skirt".  Imagine saying that!  I think it would be quite funny :)

Have you been learning anything new lately?  Or perhaps you are inspired to now?

xx Fiona

  1. I'm trying to cook more new things, not just stuff I could do in my sleep. Tonight I made chicken soup with matzah balls for the first time, along with mustard chicken. I basically invented the latter out of what I had on hand.

I'm also doing Spanish online using my library's Rosetta Stone subscription. That helps keep the cobwebs at bay.

  2. I've dusted off my Rosetta Stone and looking forward to learning a bit more French - although I'm thinking that I'd like to learn Italian for a change. I'm also getting out my cookbook (Jamie Oliver's 5 ingredient one) and trying to make new dishes.
