New video: My life as a work-from-home writer

I had a reader request to talk about my journey to becoming a full-time writer from home and also what my life looks like now, so I thought, why not!  I hope you enjoy this video, and do watch out for a Chloe-bomb from our little rescue-griffon.  It wasn't planned, the pet-bombs never are but do seem to feature in my past videos like with the cats.  I guess it's just my thing :)

If you have any questions about my video I'd be happy to answer them, and if you have any future video requests please let me know.  I really enjoyed doing this one so if you like perhaps I can do more.

Wishing you a wonderful week!
~Fiona~

PS.  I was interviewed recently by the lovely Michelle Marie McGrath for her podcast 'Unclassified Women', which is all about women who don't have children whether through circumstance or choice.  I talk about my own situation and why I don't have children, plus a bit about my career as a write-from-home author with tips on how you can start too.

You can listen on YouTube and iTunes through Michelle's link here.  I had such a lovely time chatting with Michelle, so I really hope you enjoy this interview!

  1. You are just lovely!!! Your skin is flawless and glowing in this video! I noticed your charcoal walls before you pointed it out. It looks great! Your new home is really coming together nicely. What’s your centerpiece behind you? Hydrangeas and roses? I feel like we could be dear friends if only we lived closer. I can relate to you on so many levels. You’ve taught me a lot. (I have one of your books) And I enjoy checking in with you here on your blog. Keep up what you’re doing! You’re an inspiration.💗

    1. Hi Courtney, thank you for being so sweet! Yes, they are hydrangeas and roses - it's actually a silk arrangement I fell in love with at a gift store in Auckland. It's very much like my wedding bouquet :)

  2. Thank You for the video. I find it inspiring when other women find the life that truly works for them. I loved hearing about your process. I love being home, I love my freedom and I used to be so insecure about what I thought others were thinking about my working from home. It's nice to grow up and be the person you know you really were created to be.

    1. Isn't it just, Jennifer! I love being a grown-up for that reason too. Although I don't really feel like a grown-up yet :)

  3. Hello Fiona,

I just listened to your interview. I have to admit, I had been curious about your thoughts on children but I didn't want to ask, so thank you for sharing your experience! It's very similar to mine (envisioned that I'd have 3 kids, tried to have, couldn't have any, didn't pursue other options). I'd say my happiness ratio is about 90/10. Mostly happy with a small part feeling like I'm missing out, but overall, I feel like I have a lovely life! I'm a happy dog mom :) Honestly this is the part of my life that has been surprising. I never had pets growing up, never really liked dogs or wanted pets of my own, but I think God gave me an interest in dogs during the time my husband and I were trying to have children and now it's been 8 years that we've had our 2 rescue dogs! They're my babies and I just love animals :) I'm actually writing this comment while on our annual road trip vacation with our dogs :)

  4. I really loved watching your video Fiona! It's so inspirational to see that you had a plan for how and where you wanted to live, and that your hard work and determination has paid off in allowing you to live exactly as you please. Thank you for taking the time to explain it all :-)

  5. I was so happy to open my emails this morning and find your video. You are so inspiring and also so helpful....I don't exactly run in a circle of authors, so it's great to hear about your routines.

    1. I don't know any authors in real life either! All my author and lifestyle inspiration comes from online and books too :)

  6. Hi Fiona! So excited and happy to see this video!! What wonderful insight and inspiration! I truly feel grateful to have found your blog way back in 2011. Your books are amazing and I look forward to your writing very much. And to think that a traditional publisher would have tried to create a barrier to the creation of that! So glad that the world has changed in that regard. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. The paint is gorgeous by the way!

  7. I loved this video Fiona! So wonderful hearing about your life as a successful author. And I was thinking, "Has she painted her living room? It looks WONDERFUL." I love the dark. Very chic! Like a boutique hotel. Thank you for all your encouragement and sharing your life with us. Oh, and your writing course is one of the best courses I've ever taken. I loved every minute of it! Thank you. x

  8. Hi Fiona, thanks as always for the lovely post and video :-) I have now had a chance to listen the podcast. It was very refreshing to hear your honesty and I agreed with your comments on how others sometimes think they are entitled to comment on a situation, without knowing the full story! I am a long-time follower of your blog and reader of your books and it was great to hear the chronology of your story in the podcast. I wish you continued success, Lorraine xx
