30 Chic Days – The Fourth Series: Day 6


 
We're up to Day 6 of the 30 Chic Days series.  If you’ve just joined us, you can catch up from to Day 1 here.


I’m following a simple format, logging my day.  The goals are:

Awareness of what I’m doing each day
Where I am placing my focus, and
Remembering what I want to achieve.

Here’s what I will be reporting on each day for thirty days:

What I ate
What I wore
How I moved my body
What I read
My focus for the day

Day 6:

What I ate

2 x tea with trim milk first thing

Breakfast – toasted bagel and cream cheese, a soy milk latte (homemade)

Lunch – cheese on rice crackers (double cream brie, smoked cheddar and swiss), a mandarin, handful of raw nuts

Before dinner – Lime Perrier in a champagne flute

Dinner – Homemade oven-baked chicken tenders (chicken breast cut into strips and tossed in seasoned breadcrumbs; I like to use different herbs and spices each time), baked potato with butter and Greek yoghurt, and coleslaw.  Decaf coffee and 2 squares of Whittakers Dark Ghana 72% cacao chocolate.

What I wore

Today was a day at home so I wore my home loungewear – a cotton knit long-sleeved tee-shirt and satin palazzo pants.  I love wearing soft, relaxing clothes when I’m at home by myself.

How I moved

I went for a one hour walk before I had breakfast.  Being hungry for breakfast makes me go for my walk so I can get back and look forward something yummy to eat.  I know it’s great for your body (fat-burning wise) to exercise first thing so I do it first when I can.

What I read

I read a great article on Joanna Lumley talking about turning 70.  She said she is thrilled to be getting older, and has looked forward to it since she was young.  Now that she’s 'there' she said she is still happy about it, saying ‘if you’re alive you’ll get old.  There is no point in denying it’.  It was such a positive article on aging that I tore it out for my inspiration files (from the May 2016 Australian Women’s Weekly).

My focus for the day

Relaxing.  And doing loads of clothes washing.  I still had some summer clothing hanging in my wardrobe.  Some of my more delicate tops I don't wash them every time I wear them, so the ones I weren't sure about I did a delicates wash for.  I therefore had our normal laundry loads, plus extras so that I can put my summer clothing away clean.

  1. I love this series....I cannot go for my walks first thing in the morning but know many who do and they feel once it is done they can get on with their day. I usually walk between breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner...and usually for an hour.
    Your day organizing your clothes for the season sounds very productive!
    Plus your healthy meals plus chocolate sounds wonderful!

  2. Hi - just found your blog last week and have been enjoying it so much. As a 61 year school librarian off for summer vacation I sometimes find the days slipping away from me - so much on my to do list and yet I want to relax and read, so I don't feel focused. Since I will be retiring from school in January I need to find a system to make the most of my days and yet relax. I love your method and ideas...and I also like a walk first thing in the morning. Now off to read my eBook I borrowed from the library before it automatically returns itself. I ham hoping to incorporate your questions for each day in my journal....another thing I keep meaning to do. Thanks - have a great day !

Today, I lived my Paris girl life:put on my striped top and my fleur de lys earrings, a little La Folie scent from Paris and walked with my little dog chez le fleuriste to buy flowers for a friend's birthday lunch. Like the Hostess, I think a small amount of dark chocolate after the meal is very chic. When I rented an apartment in Paris, I walked past lovely patisseries every day. It was enough to admire the elegant windows. Gluttony is never chic!

  5. I enjoy your blog Fiona! I do have a very silly question. Do you get hungry between meals, esp lunch & dinner? Your lunch sounds so delicious but I don't think it would be enough to keep me full without an afternoon snack. We have lunch around noon & dinner 7 or later. I've always had a large appetite & often wonder this about other people who eat less than I do!

  6. Hostess, I'm glad you are enjoying the series! If walking mid-morning or mid-afternoon is the best for you, I say don't listen to me. I like to move my walks around, 1) to when it suits for the day and 2) to stop things feeling stale.

    Ann, I think the same as you: I look to the future when I may be able to work from home, or further out when I'm retired, and I think to myself 'if I can't have a structured yet enjoyable day where I get things done plus have fun on my day off now, what chance do I have later on'? It's something I am working towards, haven't quite mastered it yet but I know I will. 'Daily routines', who knew they'd be so trying! I can see how people might be apprehensive about retirement, because when you have a job to structure your day, you don't have to think about it. I can definitely relate to that.

    Madame, your day sounds delightful :) On Instagram recently Tara Marino, who is American but has lived in Paris for six years and is very slim, posted a picture of exquisite pastries in a patisserie beneath her building, saying it was her favourite place. I asked her how often she indulged to stay so slim, and she said 'once a month', so there was my answer. Not even once a week - once a month!

    Hi Carrie, what a great question! If I don't have enough protein at lunch I do get hungry before dinner, and that's when I used to snack on unchic foods. Then I wouldn't enjoy my dinner because I'd filled up on potato chips or other salty nibbles. Or worse, chocolate before a meal.

    I don't often eat my lunch right on noon preferring to wait until 1pm, but I always used to have a set 12-1 lunchbreak when I worked in an office. We've brought our dinnertime to be a bit earlier, especially in the winter it could be 6.30pm or even 6pm on the weekends when we have more time. I find this helpful in not snacking.

    I have some raw nuts and/or a piece of fruit if I get hungry later on in the afternoon, or some cheese and crackers, maybe four small crackers with a piece of cheese on each.

    Cutting out the snacking habit also helped (I mention this on Day 5). I would snack whether I was hungry or not, just because it was a habit and I felt like something tasty. I don't get nearly as hungry since I made that mindset change, so interesting! I definitely think our mind drives some of our appetite. We want to eat but we're not really hungry.
