It’s hard to know what to write at a time like this, not long after the dreadful terrorism attack on Paris. It seems insensitive to carry on as if nothing has happened, but equally I don’t want to give the stage over to darkness. I truly believe that we can be compassionate and be our own little bit of light in the world and I actually think we have an obligation to be the light for others around us whether they are next door or across the sea.
We can clearly see how the city of Paris is suffering right now and my heart breaks for the people and the place. What I think I can do, all the way on the other side of the world, is to keep my frequency positive and send out love. Like many of you I was glued to the news on the weekend. I don’t normally follow the news but I simply couldn’t turn away. I have now though, and rather than feel like I have abandoned Paris, I more feel that I am honouring her by being my own brand of good in the world, no matter how small.

I was just there, in Paris, last year... It is almost unbearable this atrocity. It is a place where people from all over the globe go to experience the city that is universally known to evoke beauty and love. I heard that 16 nationalities from around the world were victims of this horrific act.
ReplyDeleteI heard La Vie En Rose playing on the radio today as I was driving and I started crying. You are right, we need to send out our love and compassion to the people of France. It is frustrating that I can't do more.

I chose not to watch the news and was cross with all the news stations who did what they could to dramatize and sensationalize such a horrible event.
ReplyDeleteShow after show, special reports, it just didn't end, for at least 3 days.
Surely the terrorists rub their hands in glee as their actions are beamed into homes around the world day after day.
Report the news and then take away their glory.

I don't know whether you will be able to watch over there, but the English and French football teams are playing tonight (8pm GMT) at Wembley and the plan is for the English fans to sing along to the Marseillaise. 90,000 fans singing as a sign of solidarity.
ReplyDeleteLovely sentiments Fiona. It is very sad what has happened but I refuse to dwell in the same dark place as the people who did this horrendous act. It has encouraged me to appreciate all of the take aways from Paris from my recent trip because they are important.
