  1. Great week of posts Fiona and a lovely video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom with us - i needed this one especially as i have an unpleasant day at work ahead tomorrow and i was letting it ruin my day. It is nice to be reminded that the only thing you can change is now :)

  4. My grandma always said, "beauty is as beauty does." Which means to me that it is more important to be beautiful inside as it is to be on the outside.

My mom always told me "you don't have to be pretty like her, you can be pretty like you." Which means to not compare myself to others but to find what is unique and special about me and highlight that.

I agree with everything you said in this video. I am mindful of the energy I bring to a situation, and try my best to stay away from negativity. Lately, I have been extra thoughtful of the words I speak and ask myself : will these words be helpful? will they be kind? how will this make the other person feel?

I have greatly enjoyed this series and thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, ideas, and feelings with us. I can tell that you are beautiful inside and out, as well as being kind and generous.

  9. Well done, Fiona. I've enjoyed all of your posts and your video. It takes courage to put yourself out there, especially on camera, and you have done it so well. You come across as thoughtful and poised, not nervous. Thank you for this past week.

  10. Hi Fiona,

It's so true that there is much to gain by being aware of your own thoughts and striving to focus on the positive.

The challenge, I find, is that sometimes people seek to take advantage of good natured people, whom they believe are gullible. I sense this has happened to me a lot, and rather than keep quiet and let them roll all over me, I've had to learn to stand up for myself and manage confronting them as best as possible, when necessary. It's a learning process and challenge, I find.

  11. This really is the key to living a chic life. When you cultivate a beautiful mind, you feel serene and inspired. You make healthy choices and don't allow negative habits to steer you off track. You feel energized and live a life of vitality, not drained by gossip or negative attitudes. I also think gratitude plays a big part of living chicly as well.

Dana L, I love those quotes from your mum and grandma so much. I'm sure they were very chic and wise ladies :)

  12. [I seem to be having some trouble with the comments today, & hope this doesn't wind up being a duplicate! If it does, my apologies to all.]

Just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed this past week, Fiona, and to thank you for the hard work you've done to bring it to us. I'm a pretty content, happy person, but I've come to realize this week that I may fall back a little too easily into my comfortable ruts: decorating, dressing, even thinking. Nothing actually bad, but just so I become less mindful. This week's worth of posts has made me want to open up a bit more readily, to allow more beauty, more happiness, more chic. I've started asking myself this question every morning over my first cup of tea: "what can I do today to bring a little more beauty into my life?" Love the video, as well -- just wish your cats had introduced themselves.

  13. Wow, thank you all so much for your lovely comments and fabulous thoughts.

Alison, I know what you mean - there is a fine line between being too nice that you'll be walked over and, well, whatever is on the other side of the line - being a stroppy trollop maybe??? I like to think of the iron fist in a velvet glove, of someone who is calm and gentle but strong and has good boundaries. I think that's where the (real or imagined) French mystique comes in - our idealistic French girl is feminine and values beauty, AND she knows herself and won't let herself be pushed around.

I promise I will get my cats into the next video :)

  14. Fiona, your blog is my favourite.
It makes me feel serene and chic to read it. I often go back and re read a post just to remind myself to focus on the feelings of elegance and clamness.

    Have you seen this blog?

  15. Hello Fiona,
I've loved following your week of beauty & enjoyed the charming video. Would you consider doing a make up tutorial of what you were wearing on your video? It was a lovely look.
    Warmest regards, Suzi.

  16. Hi Claire, thanks for the blog recommendation. It's beautiful!

Suzi, thanks! It may possibly be the most boring video ever made but I could do one putting on my makeup. I'll give it a go!
