7th Day in a Chic September

For the month of September I plan to document daily steps I have taken towards a chic, elegant and healthy life. My goal is to keep uppermost in my mind the kind of life I want to live. I will be focusing on all the small things I do each day that lead me towards my goal, rather than away from it.

Here are today’s mini-chic accomplishments:

Had such a lovely day at home today. I pottered and cleaned, decluttered and cooked. Whilst hanging out the washing I said hello to little Atlas J. Poodle, via the small bald patch on the lawn. He was such a good boy and I miss him so much. Life goes on though and it doesn’t pay to think about his silver curls or I’ll get teary.

--

Pottered, sorted out and decluttered. I made a delivery of donated items to the local op shop – it’s one of those old-fashioned ones which are so rare these days, the ones where nothing has a price and the elderly lady behind the counter looks at the two items you are holding and says ‘oh, $1.50 if that’s alright love’. That’s the kind of place I like to take my donations to.

--

Had an at-home facial before my shower (which may or may not have been lunch-time).

--

Read Cupcake Caramel’s recent post. It is so good. I especially like the last few paragraphs. Rebekah, please know I am unable to comment on your blog, Lord knows I’ve tried.

--

Made dinner from fresh ingredients as well as using up items from the fridge and freezer. Last bits in jars were emptied. And it was delicious; my man raved. At the merest hint of moving one gets the urge to empty the pantry.

If you feel like you want to make September a chic month for you as well, please join me. You are welcome to share your mini-chic accomplishments for the day (or the previous day if you read in the morning) in the comments section. It would be lovely to have you along for the ride!

  1. The chic-est thing I did yesterday would have been to come up with a nice word to describe it! I didn't even do THAT! Back on the wagon today!

  2. decluttering and pottering are 2 of my favourite things. Both chic really. I long for $1.50 op shop stuff, today I saw a falconware vase at Endos for $150!!!! 'Spensive.

  3. Hi Fiona,

I spent the better part of the last couple of days getting out my fall and winter clothes and sorting through what I could donate and what needed alterations. On Sunday a friend and myself went down to an antiques market browsed the booths and went for afternoon tea. Yesterday I went to see The Help and because it was so cool out 14 celcius I got to wear my first cashmere sweater of the season. I felt snuggly chic. Because I usually work the weekends to make it easier to get together with my clients taking a weekend off is a rare treat.

I loved you picture of Atlas, what a cutie in his plaid ensemble. Whenever you feel sad about his passing just remember that he had a good life with you and that he died knowing that he was loved. That is the most important thing any person or animal needs to know at the end. When I had to put down my 19 year old cat last year it just about killed me but even when the vet arrived to do the deed and Baghira knew what was coming she still cuddled in my lap and licked my cheek. She was trying to make me feel better. We both knew we were loved by each other. Now I am crying again,.... a bright red nose and puffy eyes are So Not Chic!

  4. Hi Fiona,

I have been meaning to comment regularly, but life has gotten in the way of my online time the last several days. I frequently think about you and your chic September. It helps me to make small improvements throughout my day-to-day life.

Here are a few things I am proud of (after Fridays wholly un-chic day):

~ Picked up a special French cheese I read about on Aesthetic Alterations that I ordered the French cheese expert at our local gourmet market. It took about four weeks to arrive and was quite expensive at $30.00 per pound, but worth the wait and the cost. We bought a baguette and some fruit and made a lunch out of it.

~ Read a fantastic book on my ereader over the long weekend.

~ Made no-knead bread and traditional ragu with sausage and beef shank for a family dinner with my father-in-law. The smart part is I made the bread dough and the sauce the day before so the day of was more relaxing.

I have other things, but my comment is starting to look like a post!

Thank you for this series. I feel like I have a little Fiona on my shoulder reminding me to be at my most chic each day. xo

  5. Hi Fiona
in my time away from the blogosphere I must have missed the update on Atlas! :( I am so sorry and sad to hear about poor Atlas. I like that you stopped to say hello as part of a mini chic accomplishment.

decluttering is next for me too! and I learned of a new facial mask when in Oregon. Aspirin and Aloe Vera! who knew? :) but it feels great

  6. I received a call today from a woman at Community Living, inquiring if I had any items for pickup next week...that's my cue to finish decluttering my closets THIS WEEK! :)

Sorry to hear about Atlas, I know you treasure the memories you have of him.

  7. Rebecca, everyone has a day off from chic, maybe more than one. You are a normal human being!

FF, op shop prices are riduculous these days. Yes I know they are raising money for charity, but if they don't sell it, no money is raised. And op shops are so named because they are an opportunity for customers to get a good bargain as well. Don't get me started!

Gracie's Mom, it's not quite warm enough here to drag my summer clothes out but I look forward to the changeover. I had a tear in my eye thinking about Baghira, what a lovely girl. I don't believe that pets don't have souls like some people think. Being caring is very chic.

Adrienne, I love your cheese story. How European to make an occasion of it. And your father's day dinner sounds wonderful. Very smart indeed to cook ahead of time.

I feel sorry for you that a nagging Fiona is on your shoulder!

Lenna, I have been meaning to make a facial toner with aspirin, I think it's salicylic acid that exfoliates the skin. I will try your mask recipe, thank you.

LR, the mind loves a deadline. And the Universe has just given you one. Go for it! If in doubt declutter anyway.

  8. I think your love for Atlas is the chicest thing you've mentioned so far. He was absolutely gorgeous, and at least you have the comfort of knowing that you made the end of his life so happy.
